Project Description:

I have rented a bass viola da gamba from the VDGSA for the past three years. I love the sound and the feel of the viol and wish to have and  play my own instrument.  I play weekly with group lessons given by Deborah van der Goes in our viol community in Nanaimo, B.C. Canada. I am purchasing a seven string bass viol from Deborah for $4300 (CAD).

Request Amount:

$

897

Total Project Cost:

$

4300

Budget and Additional Funding:

Deborah is allowing me to “rent to own” her bass viol so that I may play the instrument while I pay it off.  Deborah is willing to rent it to me for a year   My goal is to have all funds in place in this one calendar year.   To that end I would request  $900 USD funding as a Grant-in Aid from the VDGSA to help me complete paying for this instrument.

Qualifications:

I have been playing my rental bass viola da gamba for 3 years. I have only recently retired from my instructor position in Mainland Vancouver and I have been establishing new musical community on Vancouver Island. Deborah van der Goes has nurtured an outstanding Early Music community here in Nanaimo. I am thrilled to be part of the weekly consorts, and have begun to attend festivals and group workshops in the broader viola de gamba community. I have only recently relinquished my teaching duties, so I will have more and more time to devote to this instrument. I feel I am at the point where owning and cherishing my own instrument will greatly benefit my playing ability, and will allow me to participate more and more withVDGSA events and workshops.
