Postal code is changed since I got the receipt, so it is correct, the current in this application and the old one in the receipt.
I have acquired a historical pardessus made by Gavinies, Paris, in 1762. It's in quite good condition, but in need of some restoration before it can be played. (See email from Francis Beaulieu, who is doing the restoration for me, for details on the work needed). I have commissioned him to do the restoration and it is to be delivered at Conclave.
The benefit for the viol community (aside from a previously unknown pardessus becoming playable again) would be twofold. I will be able to play the pardessus in concerts in addition to the sizes I already play (i.e. bass, tenor and treble).
There will also be opportunity for other people, who can't afford such an instrument of their own, to try a historic instrument. I have been moved by the generosity of VdGSA members lending me historic instruments at conclave on two occasions and think it is great to offer (careful) players of all levels the chance to experience a historic instrument. I don't previously own any old viols, but I have not hesitated to put expensive viols in the hands of beginners regardless if I'm teaching them or meet them in workshops and other circumstances.

Total cost of project: Instrument acquisition was ~17 000€. Restoration estimated to ~ CAD 4200 but that amount is depending on how much work is needed. (Corresponding to roughly USD 22 000 in total)

The remaining cost has been/will be covered by withdrawing from personal savings. Since the total cost is high I am applying for the maximum amount but I will be grateful for any grant given.

I started playing the viol roughly 20 years ago. I am a member of the board for the Swedish viol society, take part in workshops as tutor and have students - both long term students and people wanting to brush up on their technique. My daily work is not as a performer, but I do freelance work whenever possible.
