I'm in Toronto right now, and for some reason I can't seem to make this machine view the entire application (I am certain that the problem is on my end). The long and short of it is that I'll have to delay my repsonse until after my return on April 22 (I'm in the middle of an opera). Please let me know if that will cause any hardship or force me to miss a deadline. I'll get to it just as soon as I can.

I think the fact that Elizabeth is her teacher both at SFCM and ABS shouldn't be a factor since she presumably would be studying with other people at ABS as well. However, I don't see how we can accommodate her in terms of the June deadline.It wouldn't be fair to the other applicants. And we know from experience that applications tend to bunch up right before June 15. That said, she certainly seems to be a deserving candidate.

Heads up - this just in from Elisabeth Reed:
Adaiha just found out that she got a partial scholarship to ABS through our local Pacifica chapter. She is going to write you about this, but I told her I'd write too and ask if it might be possible for her to change her application to a grant-in-aid towards buying a viol. She needs an instrument quite desperately and so that would be a great help to her. Corey and I could revise our recommendations accordingly.
(I told her I thought it would be possible, but that Adaiha would have to write an application and send info about what she wants and where she thinks she'll get it, etc.)

Dear Committee,I have been accepted into the American Bach Soloists Summer Academy as a gamba major and am looking for assistance with tuition. Fortunately the festival takes place in San Francisco so I do not have to worry about travel or accommodations, just tuition. Im currently in the process of leaving my full-time job at the SF Conservatory Box Office in order to pursue a more active performance career, and am also paying off my student loan debt from college and grad school.

Qualifications:
I have been studying treble gamba, bass gamba and baroque cello for only a year and half under Elisabeth Reed, Tanya Tomkins and William Skeen. Since then I have started a gambabaroque cello duo and already participated in last summers American Bach Soloists Academy, appearing in numerous performances on treble gamba, bass gamba and baroque cello.Most recently I won the 2012 Voices of Music Bach Competition on baroque cello, and performed in a master class for Steven Isserlis. I have also played with the SF Bach Choir Orchestra on bass gamba, performing J.C. Bachs Ach, das ich Wassers gnug hatte alongside some of the Bay Areas finest baroque musicians and singers.

at the American Bach Soloists Summer Academy. Adaiha is an alumni of the San Francisco Conservatory and was a valued member of our

And here's the one from Elisabeth Reed. Does it matter that she is the current teacher (and has been for a couple of years), and is the ABS teacher? (Maybe not...)
On another note (that would be C#), Adaiha is up against a deadline of paying for the thing and ER wants to know whether the June 15 deadline is written in stone. I more or less said it is, but if you think it might not be, do say.

Adaiha has been studying both Baroque Cello and Viola da Gamba with me for the past two years at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She is an extremely talented, self-motivated and responsible student. She recently won the Voices of Music Competition on Baroque Cello and she was a participant at the American Bach Soloists Academy last year on both cello and gamba. She has played gamba in a professional context with me in the San Francisco Bach Choir. She has a wonderful viol duo with her colleague Hallie Pridham and they have performed extensively both as a two treble and as a two bass duo. She is extremely serious about the viol and about early music in general. As an emerging professional who is trying to get high level training and purchase instruments, she is an ideal candidate for gamba society support. I recommend her without reservation.
