I just uploaded a document called "Abendmusik Recording Project Budget Detail" that I received from Pat Neely containing all the expenses for the recording and the amount they raised to cover part of the CD and how they did it.
Pat Neely says that the balance of $2186 to cover the CD recording project will be drawn from earmarked portions of state and local grants made in FY19 to Abendmusik’s program.
Project Description:
I would like to request a grant in aid of $1500 so that I can complete the premiere recording of the Complete Works of William White with my ensemble Abendmusik. We have recorded one half of the works but need funding to complete the second half of the recording, editing, and pressing of cds to make the first and only recording of his complete works to date available. Dongsok Shin is the recording engineer and editor. We will be selling the recording on ITunes and will press a quantity of cds for sale.

Patricia Ann Neely has appeared with many early music ensembles including, the Folger Consort, Smithsonian Viol Consort, Washington Bach Consort, Artek, Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera, the Boston Camerata, Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, the Newberry Consort, the New York Consort of Viols, among others. She spent three years in Europe touring and recording with Sequentia, was a founding member of Parthenia, and is currently managing director of Abendmusik, a period instrument string band. Ms. Neely teaches at the Brearley School and has been a coach at the Amherst Early Music Workshop and the Viola da gamba Society Conclaves as well as regional viol and recorder workshops. She earned a degree in music from Vassar College and an MFA in historical performance at Sarah Lawrence College. Her teachers have included Grace Feldman, Judith Davidoff, and Wieland Kuijken.

I am writing in support of the application by Patricia Ann Neely on behalf of the ensemble Abendmusik which is engaged in a recording project of the complete works of William White (1571--ca. 1634--not the living composer by that name!). This project is significantly underway. The application is for $1,500 which will complete this worthy effort. I have known Pat Neely since she was my student at Vassar College many years ago. In recent times, I've even performed with her as harpsichord accompanist. She is gifted, expert and dedicated to the viol repertoire. I recommend her, her ensemble, and this project in particular in the highest terms.

Recommendation: Patricia Ann Neely – Abendmusik

I have known and worked with Pat Neely since 2004, when I was the general manager of Frederick Renz’s early music organization “The Early Music Foundation” (EMF) at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City.
At that time Pat was (and still is) teaching at the Brearley School, one of the City’s most prestigious private schools. Brearley produces an annual fundraising concert or theater event, and had appointed Pat to help arrange the event that year. In that capacity, she contacted EMF, and together we produced a special musical “entertainment” featuring several of the most prominent artists in the early music field, built around a custom dramatic script incorporating many Brearley in-jokes and references. Throughout the long creative process, Pat was in constant contact with EMF, ensuring that all the many pieces were falling into place in a timely and effective way. It was then that I recognized her commitment to our field, and competence at creating worthwhile projects.
In my current capacity at GEMS, I have had the privilege of working with Pat and her ensemble, Abendmusik, on a number of projects. GEMS has been an IRS fiscal sponsor of Abendmusik for the past four years. Among the projects are live concerts presented at the Church of St. Luke in the Fields, preparation for a recording of the complete works of William White, and three successful awards for annual grants from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCSA). Again, all of us at GEMS have been impressed by Pat’s commitment to her work, the well-being and success of the ensemble she leads, and the field of early music in general.
As further evidence of the esteem in which she is held, Pat was named as one of four featured speakers on a distinguished, select panel representing the artists’ points of view at the national conference of Chamber Music America held in New York in January, 2018. She was also named to the grants award panel of NYSCSA, in which she has distinguished herself (according to reports from the Music Program Officer at NYSCA) as an articulate, thoughtful, and committed voice.
It is without reservation that I recommend Patricia Ann Neely as a recipient of a VdGSA grant-in-aid. The Society will benefit from her wise stewardship of these resources and the product of her efforts.
