Project Description:
I wish to purchase a 1960 Praetorius tenor viol to use as a loaner instrument for our expanding viol playing community in the Nanaimo area. This viol (plus case and bow), is valued at $2500 CAD, around $1850 USD.

I am in an ongoing conversation with Bill Jamieson, Executive Director, Early Music of the Islands (Victoria, BC) about such funding. Should that not be provided, I am happy to personally provide the rest of the purchase price.
Qualifications:
As a lifetime second generation viol player, retired since 2010, I have time and energy to nurture the local viol community. In the past twelve years I have added eight new viol players, all who play regularly in our four weekly viol groups which meet year round. Six of these players have since bought their own instruments. Several local musicians are showing interest in the viol.
